“REACH”
IS GREGOR’S MESSAGE TO LHS
Coming from a recent experience working in the White
House for President George W. Bush, Joie Drouhard Gregor, LHS
‘68 graduate, spoke to students at Loudonville High School
in April. Joie’s homecoming was the second in the “Believe”
series sponsored by the Loudonville/Perrysville Alumni Association
for the students of LHS.
“When your President asks you to go to work for the country,
you say ‘Yes’ to helping,” indicated Joie,
whose primary messages for the youth were to “reach”
for life’s opportunities while “reaching”
to do your best. Upon naming her Director of Presidential Personnel,
President Bush remarked, “Joie is one of the nation's
top executive recruiters. Her considerable experience will be
an asset to my Administration, and I am pleased that Joie is
joining the White House team.”
Prepared by LHS teacher and ‘74 alum Kim Dinger Stitzlein,
an introductory video highlighting Joie’s accomplishments
since leaving high school was shown to students in the early
morning. Then, after students moved into the gym for her speech,
Gregor was introducted by her niece, Nicole Lett Docherty, ‘88,
who emphasized her family’s pride in her Aunt Joie’s
travels, relationships, awards, and endeavors.
In her White House experience, Gregor was responsible for the
recruitment and recommendation of senior level appointments
in the Bush Administration. Those included all political appointees
throughout the Executive Branch, including Cabinet, Sub-Cabinet,
and Ambassadorial posts, as well as Presidential Boards and
Commissions.
In Washington, D.C., a special moment for Gegor came when her
path crossed that of Staff Sgt. Scott Rohrbaugh in his job with
the transportation agency. A Hillsdale High School graduate,
Rohrbaugh is the son of SFC David Rohrbaugh, Ret., an LHS graduate
in 1966 and the holder of a last name very familiar in the Loudonville
area.
Prior to joining the President’s senior staff, Gregor
served as Vice Chairman of the executive search firm Heidrick
& Struggles, Inc. where she became a Partner in 1993. She
is listed among the “Top 200 Executive Recruiters”
in the world in “The Global 200 Executive Recruiters”,
a ranking in the executive search industry. Previously, Gregor
was with the IBM Corporation, where she held a variety of management
positions of increasing responsibility over a 13-year period.
Gregor holds a B.A. from the University of Colorado and a M.A.
from Case Western Reserve University, where she serves as a
Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees and is also a member
of the Executive Committee. In addition, Gregor was an IBM Sloan
Fellow at Stanford University, where she received an M.S. in
Management. She is also a member of the Ladies Professional
Golf Association Commissioner’s Advisory Council.
Gregor’s presentation was taped and later that day was
broadcast on Loudonville’s WZLP Radio, FM 95.7 by Margie
Danner, radio director and ‘61 LHS alum. |
